A Warm Welcome

Welcome to the Gatekeeper, Etchinghill, a traditional country inn resting at the southern end of the wonderful Elham valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Dating back to 1595 this lovely pub provides a cosy and relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy a refreshing drink and delicious food from a wide-ranging menu with specials which change weekly. We cater for vegetarians & vegans and can provide gluten and dairy free options.

We are dog-friendly, so why not enjoy a walk in the local countryside before or after your visit. Popular too with cyclists and motorists with parking for up to twenty cars.

Opening Hours

Regular opening hours:

Bar and kitchen open 12 noon seven days a week.

Bar open until late, 8pm on Sundays

Kitchen serves all day until 8:45pm. 6pm on Sundays

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Dear Customer

We regret to inform you that as from 27th January 2025 and throughout February the Gatekeeper will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is primarily due to staffing issues as some of our chefs and bar staff take well-earned holidays following a hectic festive season. We hope you understand the reasoning behind our decision and that it does not cause you too much inconvenience. We hope to see you sometime during the rest of the week. Back to normal as soon as we can!
